Wrestling Camp (Grades 2-8)
Wrestling Camp (Grades 2-8)
Sidwell’s Summer Wrestling Camp is an opportunity for beginner and novice wrestlers to develop new skills and learn more about the sport of wrestling. Campers will learn skills and strategy related to each of the basic positions (top, bottom, and neutral) in a safe and fun environment overseen by Sidwell Friends School coaches and athletes. Our intent is that wrestlers who complete the camp will be sufficiently prepared to join a local recreational wrestling club or a middle school team, if doing so would be of interest. Open to all levels and gender - we encourage you to try it out and sign up with a friend!
Staff: Head Wrestling Coach Josh Markey has been teaching and coaching at Sidwell since 2008, and has been head coach of the wrestling program since 2017. Members of Sidwell’s varsity wrestling team will also be on-hand to assist with instruction.
Equipment: Wrestling shoes are strongly recommended. No street shoes will be permitted on the wrestling mats. While socks will be allowed, wrestling shoes will make the experience much more enjoyable. Campers should wear close-fitting athletic clothing. Each camper should bring their own water bottle.
Facilities: All sessions will be held indoors in Sidwell’s wrestling room in the Pearson Athletic Center.
