Woodworking (Grades 3-8)
1 week sessions 9:00am - 3:00pm Price: $600-$695
In this tree-mendous studio, it is unbe-leaf-able what campers will create. We know, we know, get rid of these acorn-y puns… However, let’s not get rid of Woodworking! This timeless but increasingly forgotten craft is still an incredibly valuable skill to have. Our hope is to bring it back and have campers experience the power and impact of building with their own hands. In this studio, campers learn age-appropriate skills like how to utilize hand tools (including egg beater drills, pull saws, block planes, and more) and take necessary safety precautions while creating a variety of wooden treasures — from stools to sailboats and even gravity-powered cars! There's no limit on what campers' hands can do with the right materials and expert guidance!
Skills Learned:
Knowledge gained in the building of soap box cars, the science of momentum, gravity, breaks, axels and other STEM concepts. Techniques such as measuring, various safe and proper sawing techniques, rasping, sanding, painting, using hand drills, and hammering. Fine and gross motor skills such as using hand saws, scissors, screwdrivers, hand drills, painting, hammering, and gluing properly. Skills such as building technique, drafting and other planning techniques, protyping, and reuse of old materials. Soapbox Derby
Grades 5-8
Buckle up for the ride of your life as campers transform plain old plywood into gravity-powered cars! In this weeklong program, campers learn and expand upon woodworking knowledge to create a 52 inch cart that is ready to race by Friday. While there is only one Grand Champion, everyone walks away from this track as a winner with their own gravity-powered car, designed and built by their own hands. Ready to race? Let's build!
